Honger, koude, ziekte en folteringen werden verdrongen door kunst. Meer dan 15.000 kinderen kregen er teken- en muziekles en maakten er dichtoefeningen. De overlevering van de vele kunstwerken is overweldigend en vaak hartverscheurend.
